The second type of confidence I’m referring to can be seen in schoolyards – kids with little to no experience at anything. Some kids are happy-go-lucky, and are pretty good at most things they try. And if they try something they aren’t good at, they think something is wrong with someone else – not with them. These are the kids who are confident in themselves, not because of any skill-set or experience but because of optimism.
After all, what is confidence in the end? Confidence is a BELIEF (rather than a knowledge) that the individual will be alright no matter what. That the individual will succeed at whatever he sets out to do. And, like most beliefs, it requires no basis in rational thought, because (at least in social contexts) the belief is often self-fulfilling.

Yohami: ““He threw the pills in the trash ”
That’s not very respectful. Did it work?”
I didn’t deserve respect, because I wasn’t acting respectfully. And yes, it worked…not the disrespect, but getting the damned crazy pills out of my system worked wonders. So much so, whenever our friends say their wives are crazy we ask if they are on the pill.

On BB’s discussion of the advanced player’s ‘alligator tears’ over his bachelorhood, and the utility and occasional disingenuous of his proclaiming an interest in a bourgeois LTR:
