Also, a close relative (psychogist) actually told me that unlike the other scales, the T-F scale is actually 2 independent scales. While u can’t simultaneously be high-I and high-E, u can actually be high-T while being high-F. As an NF person, I’m pretty sure I have higher-than-avg logical reasoning and I can be really task-oriented when I want; similarly, most of the NT pple i know have a lot of empathy and consideration for others (in fact, they often have more tact and more consideration to maintain social harmony than me). I think there are many of us who are high in both T and F, and unfortunately there are also those who are low in both. :p F. Thus I think it’s extra-impt to not over-pigeonhole based on the T-F scale.

First of all, many of the sites that offer free MBTI advice or tests don’t really express the meaning of the tests – in fact, they are more horoscope-like than anything else. I’ve studied the system for several years, and I agree that there are flaws in the measuring tools….but when cognitive functions are well-understood, they can offer a lot of insight.

Now, regarding your ISFJ friend. I must explain that Fe-dominant people do not necessarily adopt their values/feelings from dominant society. Instead, they adopt values from people whom they respect/idolize. For example, my sister is an SF personality, but adopted her Fe values from my father, who encouraged her to be strong, independent, and masculine. With him as her role-model, she is anything but conventional. But, when her personality is understood, it can be seen that she does what she does, not out of logical process, nor out of what she, internally, desires, but rather because of what she BELIEVES IS RIGHT. And why does she believe it is right? Because she internalized it from someone she respected at an early age. That is the essence of Fe-dominance.
